Exhibitions - Off site
This exhibition is available to organisers of events within the CERN Member States.
The stand presents a brief overview of CERN and its flagship project, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), through a combination of large graphic panels, on-screen displays and videos. It is appropriate for use at events varying in duration from a few days up to a few weeks. There are no large CERN objects on the stand. Additional material could be added by the organizer but only with the agreement of CERN.
The one-quadrant travelling exhibition stand has a surface area of 35m2
The larger version of the CERN travelling exhibition stand has a surface area of 90m2
Conditions of use
The stand is available on request, within the limits of a calendar kept by CERN. CERN reserves the right to refuse a request without the need to give a reason. The stand will be administered, shipped, installed and dismantled by CERN but the cost of these operations are at the charge of the receiving organiser (see cost below).
This exhibition material is ideal for use at events such as shows, conferences or science festivals of short duration (up to 1 week). If additional material is used around the CERN stand, this must be supplied by the organiser and be clearly identified as such. This material could be in the form of posters, DVD/CDROM presentations, physics hardware, prototypes and hands-on demonstrations.
Complementary events such as demonstrations, popularising or specialised talks, debate sessions can also be organised in or around the stand. These events are the responsibility of the organisers and must be clearly identified as such. A strong presence from the local physics community is recommended during the event.
Cost
The cost per venue is:
- 15 000 € for one quadrant
- 20 000 € for the larger exhibition composed of two quadrants
This includes:
- Transport and insurance during transport
- Installation and dismantling (team of three)
- Travel and accommodation (flights and hotels)
- Printing of small panels in the local language
The cost is based on:
- delivery from Geneva to each venue
- Weekday work and travel
- Weekend work and travel will increase the installation/dismantling costs
Logistics
The stand is installed and dismantled by a team of three people, the CERN Travelling Exhibition Manager, and two exhibition technicians. This ensures that the exhibition is installed, dismantled and packed correctly. It also minimises damage and allows on-site repairs and the replacement of damaged parts to be done when needed.
The stand has been designed to move easily and directly from venue to venue but under the condition that the installation and dismantling teams are used. The stand is delivered by road on a curtain sided lorry. A fork lift truck is required to load and unload the lorry.
If the event area is not on the ground floor a large goods lift should be available to move the stand material to the exhibition floor. A storage area of between 15 - 20 m2 is required to store the stand packaging for the duration of the exhibition.
Site visit
A site visit is recommended for each venue to help finalise and determine all the details and logistics for the event.
Installation and dismantling
Below are outlined two typical installation/dismantling schedules:
- One quadrant
- Installation: ONE DAY
- Dismantling: HALF A DAY
- Two quadrants
- Installation: TWO DAYS
- Dismantling: ONE DAY
Installation/dismantling, between Tuesday and Thursday. Weekend work should be avoided where possible, this includes travel to and from venue.
Travelling
- "IN", the day before installation
- "OUT", after completion of installation/dismantling
Packaging
The exhibition material is transported in a set of customised flight cases for protection and storage. All the cases are on wheels.

Stand description
Content
The stand presents a brief overview of CERN's activities and the Laboratory's flagship project, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and is composed of large graphic panels (1.80 m x 2.40 m) on the inside wall, conveying CERN's key messages:
- Seeking
- Uniting
- Advancing
- Training
Additional large graphic panels are displayed on the outside wall.
8 graphic panels are included in the one quadrant exhibition, 16 in the two quadrant exhibition.
The central area houses three screens: a large LCD screen and two smaller 17'' computer screens. There are no CERN objects or hands-on presentations on the stand.
In the larger two quadrant exhibition there are two additional computer screens and one additional LCD.
